Seven Oaks businesses come to aid of the community during time of uncertainty.
During the last several months we have watched the world, and more closely our community, respond to the unprecedented novel coronavirus. We have witnessed not just the fragility of one’s health but also small businesses and the economy during a pandemic. Coretta Scott King once said, “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”
Bakersfield’s compassion during these trying times has reinforced how boundless of a community we truly are. For example, residents came together to sew thousands of masks for frontline pandemic workers, many gathered at local hospitals for drive-in prayer gatherings to support those aiding the sick, and more.
Specifically, in our Seven Oaks neighborhood, several businesses rose up to offer their support.
Despite having to adjust to new health guidelines and move to alternative service methods, Umi Sushi at Mustang Square wanted to show local healthcare providers their support in a tangible way. To do so, Umi Sushi donated 1,000 N95 masks to Adventist Health Bakersfield.George Masud, owner of Waterfall Cleaners at Grand Island Village, recognized a need for grocery delivery specific to the elderly and disabled. To meet the need, Waterfall Cleaners began offering contactless grocery delivery to the select group.
“Many of the elderly do not have transportation. The point of our service is to keep them at home and as healthy as possible,” said George.
Once the media learned of the service, it quickly evolved into #BakersfieldStrongDelivers. Those wishing to support the effort were encouraged to drop off donations at Waterfall Cleaners; Waterfall would then incorporated the donated items into their grocery deliveries.
Specializing in hospice care, Hoffmann Hospice at Seven Oaks Business Park, is very adept in helping people navigate unchartered waters. Their experience has taught them sometimes all it takes is an encouraging word or two to calm some of the fears. Drawing from that experience and applying it to the
community at large, Hoffmann Hospice developed a yard sign campaign to tell everyone “Everything is going to be okay”.“My hope is that when friends and neighbors are on a walk or driving by, they will read ‘Everything is going to be okay’, take a deep breath, smile, and carry on,” said Beth Hoffmann, Director of Operations at Hoffmann Hospice.
Responding to the economic impact of Covid-19 on non-profits, Valley Strong Credit Union extended their help through the “Valley Strong Covid-19 Relief Fund”. Grants funded through the relief fund will total $100,000 and be available for Kern County non-profits to apply for a grant up to $5,000.
“We will continue to see the effects of the pandemic for the foreseeable future but we can all find assurance knowing we are among a community of compassionate businesses and residents, who aim to support one another during times of both prosperity and difficulty,” said Bruce Davis, Sr. Vice President of Bolthouse Properties, as he reflected on the response of Seven Oaks.

With the change in the season comes new beginnings!
Bolthouse Properties and Seven Oaks Business Park congratulate Valley Montessori Academy on the recent groundbreaking for their new facility.
Led by Anna Dulcich and Oxana Raimonda, the Academy is one of the few private Montessori schools in Kern County. The new expanded location will provide programs for toddlers as young as 18 months, preschoolers, and lower elementary-aged students as old as 9 years. The Montessori curriculum varies by program; however, the goals for the school are consistent:
- To enter a partnership with parents in the education of their children
- To lead children toward mastery of individually identified intellectual, social, physical, and daily life skills
- To foster in the children deep and persistent curiosity that will lead to a lifelong pursuit of knowledge
- To help children develop self-confidence, become an independent, responsible, self-disciplined and self-motivated learner
- To assist each child develop a habit of concentration
- To instill in each child a sense of personal responsibility for the world in which we live
- To spark in our children wonder, imagination, and joy
“The community around Seven Oaks Business Park is growing as more families move into the area neighborhoods — Belcourt and Highgate and new businesses develop. The Valley Montessori Academy will soon provide another alternative for parents who are seeking a live-work-play balance,” says Senior Vice President, Bruce Davis.

The Valley Montessori Academy is scheduled to open in the Summer 2021. For more information, about Valley Montessori Academy, visit valleyma.com.
As the year continues to unfold, Bolthouse Properties looks forward to updating the community on the latest news within our community.

Owners, Stasie and Shai Bitton were able to extend the Smitten brand while staying true to the Café Smitten vision, style and concept that has been established at their downtown location.

“Bakersfield is rapidly growing, we want to be able to serve more of our southwest customers in a convenient neighborhood location. Grand Island Village is a perfect location for us to do that from,” say the Bittons.
This site location offers an open concept with large windows and lots natural light. With an indoor and outdoor seating, Seven Oaks residents can now enjoy the same breakfast and lunch menu items they’ve grown to love, a little closer to home. Some customer favorites include the Avocado Smash or Schnitzel Sandwiches. If you haven’t tried them, we highly recommend it!
Additionally, some new differentiating offerings can be found at the Grand Island Village location including shakes – Almond & PB + Joe, a broad beer and wine list featuring local and regional favorites, all day weekend brunch and dinner entrees. Inspired by Shai’s hometown and cultural, tradition and innovation comes together through a variety of mouth watering dinner entrees recently launched as a part of the extended hours of operations Smitten has to offer.
And for those on the run, Smitten offers all items to go. Simply call ahead to place your favorite food or drink order including the signature Counter Culture Coffee and Pie Holes we’ve all grown to love!
