Bolt of Hope Awards Grant to One Door Recovery

One Door Recovery is a new, emerging Bakersfield-based non-profit organization seeking to provide quality out-patient drug and alcohol treatment with medical detox to everyone who is ready and willing to receive help, regardless of their ability to pay. The program will use evidence based curriculum while creating a supportive recovery community.

Bolthouse Properties’ employees selected One Door Recovery to receive a “Bolt of Hope” grant to assist in the startup of their program. The money awarded to them will be used for the purchase of KIPU, an electronic medical records software program tailored for addiction treatment. The software will allow One Door to provide the best, most comprehensive treatment to all patients, as well as, bill insurance companies for insured clients.

One Door Recovery plans to open in early 2019. For additional information visit: http://www.OneDoorRecovery.org.

    About

Bolt of Hope is a team comprised of Bolthouse Properties’ employee whose vision is to grow God’s kingdom in Bakersfield through love and compassion, by being open-minded to the needs in our community, and by watering the seeds planted by local organizations that have a passion for being the light in the world.

  • Medical services expand to the greater Seven Oaks area

Building on the success of the Centric Urgent Care, which opened within the last year, The Shoppes at Seven Oaks will soon have an additional medical tenant. The Kern Endocrine Center will open a new facility alongside the Centric Urgent Care and the two local eateries – Sequoia Sandwich and Asada Grill, also opening later this year.

Further evidence of growth of the medical market is currently underway within the Seven Oaks Business Park on Bolthouse Drive where two office and medical suites totaling over 13,000 square feet are completing construction and will be available for occupancy starting January 1, 2019.

According to Mark Smith, a Principal at ASU and Associates and broker for the Seven Oaks Business Park, “As the city’s growth continues to move west, we’re meeting with business owners who appreciate the unique zoning opportunities and who have a vision for what this region will look like down the road. It is easy to appreciate the quality and aesthetic of the Seven Oaks community. Bolthouse Properties offers our clients a variety of alternatives from competitive lease programs, to purchase of land, to build to suit and construction management services. The Seven Oaks Business Park provides medical professionals with the opportunity to purchase the land and own their facility rather than lease, creating equity for their business and increasing the value of their enterprise,” Smith said.

Typifying the increased development, Hoffmann Hospice is excited to announce the Phase II development of their campus on Buena Vista Drive. By next summer their entire team of Hoffmann Hospice will be on one campus!  The new building, which is approximately 12,900 square feet, will be home to their administration, volunteer and outpatient clinical staff. In addition, they will also house two large rooms dedicated to their popular community grief support groups! “Being under one roof is going to allow Hoffmann to serve even more patients in the hospice home at any given moment as well as add to the efficiency of day to day operations, says Beth Hoffmann, Administrator at Hoffmann Hospice.”

As the end of 2018 nears, discussions are ongoing for the continued expansion of the medical uses within the Seven Oaks Business Park.

Bruce Davis, Senior Vice President at Bolthouse Properties says, “The Business Park has the unique ability to cater to the needs of medical office and retail users in a live/work/play environment within a master planned business park. We’ve incorporated heavily landscaped open spaces and trails for the enjoyment of businesses with connectivity to the neighborhood pedestrian trails and retail outlets.”

Following the track record for residential growth in the Seven Oaks community, the demand for quality medical services is expected to dramatically increase giving way to opportunities for forward looking companies to expand their serves to the growing Seven Oaks region.

Garden Pathways Receives Grant to Institute Tattoo Removal Program

On Monday, November 26th, 2018 through the Bolt of Hope program, Bolthouse Properties’ employees had the honor of presenting Garden Pathways with a grant to fund a tattoo removal machine. The grant will allow Garden Pathways to institute a premier tattoo removal program, providing participants an opportunity to experience outer transformation.

Tattoo removal is a current need that is critical for participants of Garden Pathways’ programs, especially former gang members, because the majority possess visible tattoos that become a physical obstacle that make it difficult to obtain and secure employment. One of the most mentioned reasons among participants for why they want to remove their tattoos is the hope of setting a good example for their children. With this service, participants will feel more confident in obtaining and retaining employment, enrolling in school, and stepping into their role as a healthy parent. Garden Pathways will provide the service to individuals enrolled in their programs and community clients seeking to start a new chapter in their lives and truly be transformed from the inside out.

Garden Pathways, a local organization that has served the Bakersfield community for the last 20 years, seeks to help low-income individuals and families, high-risk youth, homeless individuals, individuals struggling with substance abuse, current and former gang members, and formerly and currently incarcerated individuals.

Bolthouse Properties’ Employees Grant a ‘Bolt of Hope’

In December 2017, it was announced to Bolthouse Properties’ employees that they would have the opportunity in 2018 to award grant money to non-profit organizations within the Bakersfield community. As a result, Bolt of Hope was born.

Bolt of Hope is a team comprised of Bolthouse Properties’ employees whose vision is to grow God’s kingdom in Bakersfield through love and compassion, by being open-minded to the needs in our community, and by watering the seeds planted by local organizations that have a passion for being the light in the world.

Together, the team sought non-profit organizations who proposed to meet needs in our community. Specifically, the team looked to provide a one-time gift, or a “Bolt of Hope”, to help with a project or program for which regular support does not provide.

Bolt of Hope awarded grants to three Bakersfield organizations: Garden Pathways, One Door Recovery, and LiFT.

  • JOHN COX: Cafe Smitten breaks ground on southwest Bakersfield expansion

JOHN COX: Cafe Smitten breaks ground on southwest Bakersfield expansion

Cafe Smitten, the darling of downtown’s so-called Eastchester district, is expanding to southwest Bakersfield in coordination with local real estate developer Bolthouse Properties.

At a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday, the coffeehouse’s owners, Stasie and Shai Bitton, detailed plans to open a Seven Oaks location with extended hours, a more substantial meal menu than its downtown location offers and a wide selection of beer and wine — a “fuller restaurant experience,” as Stasie put it.

“It was a dream” to expand to another location, she said, and the southwest seemed an easy choice.

“We were drawing a lot of customers from the southwest to downtown,” she added. “It just felt like a natural progression.”

The new location, simply named Smitten, is scheduled to open in fall of 2019 on a property immediately north of the existing Grand Island Village shopping center at the northwest corner of Ming Avenue and Buena Vista Road. Grand Island Village, a property Bolthouse began to develop in 2010, currently has tenants that are mostly independently owned and operated.

Seven Oaks does have coffee houses but none of them are independents, noted Bolthouse Properties’ senior vice president of development, Bruce Davis. He said bringing in Smitten will give customers a new option for quality food, good service and a positive customer experience.

“That translates no matter where you go,” he said.

Shai Bitton sees Smitten adjusting well to the distinctions between downtown and Seven Oaks. For one thing, it will be easier moving into a built-to-suit space rather than a 100-year-old building that required significant adaptation, he said. There’s also less need in southwest Bakersfield to generate foot traffic.

“Over here you have the feel of a big-city small coffee shop,” he said. “In the southwest it’s a different feel.”

Angel Hansen and Nicole Miller, both of whom had driven from Tehachapi Tuesday to eat at Cafe Smitten, agreed the business has something special to offer. Hansen praised its calming atmosphere, “decent prices” and nourishing food.

Miller also complimented the menu, with its organic and freshly prepared items, and expressed an appreciation for the many plants and aesthetically pleasing design. She said she hopes the company is able to maintain those qualities as it expands.

  • Creating Connection

    Creating Connection

The Seven Oaks West Ming Specific Plan outlines a 25-year plan for the future growth within the Seven Oaks Master Planned Community. A cornerstone to the plan is the miles of trails and paseos linking the residential villages with the community parks and retail centers as well as the office park. The Seven Oaks Master Planned Community offers pedestrians connectivity to shopping, entertainment and employment hubs which create a genuine live-work-play environment without the need to get in a car.

The multi-purpose trail was championed by, and later named after, Stephan J. DeBranch to provide connectivity to the businesses within the Seven Oaks Business Park and the Seven Oaks residential communities of Belcourt and Highgate. As the trail is developing, his dream is quickly becoming a reality. Cycling and walking enthusiasts are able to enjoy the outdoors as well as the convenience of numerous neighborhood and business access points to the multi-purpose trail.

The northern portion of the trail system connects through Castle & Cooke’s most recent development, Highgate Seven Oaks, linking the new residential community and the future Highgate elementary school. Ultimately, the trail will connect with the Kern River Bike Path, offering access along the Kern River. Castle & Cooke has continued embrace the connectivity of the trail system to benefit the current and future residents. “Castle & Cooke is working with City staff to introduce a linear park around a portion of Highgate at Seven Oaks that, if approved, would not only connect to the Kern River Trail but also provide a point of connection where the adjacent village to the south could pick up the linear park concept and incorporate it into their plan as well,” stated Scott Thayer, Senior Vice President at Castle & Cooke. “Castle & Cooke is a strong proponent of creating connectivity and gathering places within master planned communities and we think a linear park helps us accomplish that.”

Within the Belcourt Seven Oaks neighborhoods, Woodbridge Pacific Group (WPG) has adopted the same components of the memorial trail, offering residents connectivity within their neighborhood. “The trail is a great amenity of Seven Oaks that provides recreation and links to retail centers and the Seven Oaks Business Park. We wanted to take it a step further by giving our residents the ability to connect from within our neighborhoods so we extended the trail into our interior streets and promenade,” said Jeff Eittreim, Division Manager of WPG.

This fall the Seven Oaks neighborhood, along with the Bakersfield community, can enjoy the completed portions of the Stephan J. DeBranch Memorial Trail during the 3rd Annual Run to Remember – 10k, 5k and 1-mile – benefiting Hoffmann Hospice on Saturday, October 27th. Runners and walkers will start at the east end of the Hoffmann Hospice Home at the entrance of the Memorial Trail.

For those who have participated in this event in past years, we are sure you will be impressed with the continued growth of the Seven Oaks Master Plan. New this year is the completed Centric Urgent Care as well as the, soon to open, Asada Grill and Sequoia Sandwich Shop at The Shoppes at Seven Oaks Business Park.

Bolthouse Properties is pleased to support the Hoffmann Hospice in this event and hopes to see you again this year for breakfast and morning fun supporting Tom and Beth Hoffmann’s efforts to provide home hospice care surrounded by dignity. Run To Remember Someone You Will Never Forget

Written by Dawni Fauke, Hoffmann Hospice Volunteer

If you have ever lost someone close to you, you know just how important it is to keep their memory alive. While the mourning process can be incredibly difficult, keeping a loved one’s memory alive is a valuable part of the process. It provides a meaningful way to express the significance their life had. Though we are familiar with this sentiment in our personal lives, it’s not often that we see a company show the same compassionate act of honor in memory of employees whom they have lost. But that’s exactly what local business Bolthouse Properties LLC has done for Steve Debranch, an employee they lost to cancer in 2015. At the first Run to Remember event, Bolthouse Properties dedicated the Stephan J. DeBranch Memorial Trail, a trail that Steve designed and envisioned in the development of the land.  A beautiful plaque in remembrance of Steve DeBranch graces the entrance of the trail to the east of the Hoffmann Hospice Home. This trail is where the run begins every year. The DeBranch family and Bolthouse Property employees come together every year as a team to run to remember Steve DeBranch and the honorable legacy he left behind as a dearly loved employee of Bolthouse Properties. “It has been a wonderful way for us to honor and remember Steve and the legacy he left to his family and those of us at Bolthouse Properties, LLC.  He envisioned the trail long before its existence and to walk on it now with his family and our employees gives us a sense of satisfaction to see his vision come to life.”, Tony described. You can start your own team when you register for Run To Remember and honor someone you will never forget. Run To Remember will take place Saturday, October 27, 2018, 8A.M. at the Hoffmann Hospice Home.

The Lee & Krystyna Jamieson Recovery Home for Women & Children

The Lee & Krystyna Jamieson Recovery Home for Women & Children opened on Thursday, May 10, 2018. The center is located downtown Bakersfield and will house up to 38 women and children. The recovery home is designed to provide a comfortable environment for women in recovery, a place where those coming out of the darkest days of their life—can be given new hope.

The program is faith based and will focus on getting the women to deal with the underlying issues of their substance abuse. It is geared towards women with substance abuse issues ranging from opioid, methamphetamine addiction, and chronic alcohol abuse.

According to the National Institute of Drug Abuse, more than 15-million women have used illicit drugs in the past year—and every three minutes a woman goes to the emergency room for prescription painkiller misuse, or abuse.

Funding for the Recover Home was entirely supported by community donations. The community saw a growing problem and came together to solve it. With the assistance from local donors including Bolthouse Properties, the total $1.8 million project cost was raised without any government support or financing, making the Recovery Home debt free upon opening.
