  • A 2019 Mid Year Recap

    A 2019 Mid Year Recap

The midway point of 2019 is here and in the last six months there has been a tremendous amount of growth within our community, expanding the services available to those who live and work in Seven Oaks.

At our neighborhood centre, Grand Island Village, Smitten is under construction with walls going up; the highly anticipated second location of Café Smitten is on target to open later this year. We look forward to their extended hours, dinner menu, and did we mention their pie holes!

Further south at The Shoppes at Seven Oaks Business Park, located at Buena Vista Road and Bolthouse Drive, we have seen additional retail growth with the opening of the first phase and construction of the second phase currently underway.

Asada Grill, a fast casual Mexican restaurant opened its newest location at The Shoppes in early January while Sequoia Sandwich Company opened their newest location in late April. Both restaurants have become lunchtime favorites for those working in the Seven Oaks Business Park and surrounding community. Additionally, Sully’s Chevron opened their second Seven Oaks location early this spring, having recognized the opportunity to serve the growing population at the Seven Oaks Business Park.

Phase two of The Shoppes at Seven Oaks Business Park will include The UPS Store, Pair & Marotta Physical Therapy and Perfect Smile, a neighborhood dentist to better serve our growing community. Look for these businesses to open later this year!

Centric Health will be expanding their presence within Seven Oaks Business Park, as they recently finalized plans for two medical buildings totaling approximately 50,000 square feet, which will be located at Bolthouse Drive and Trade Center Drive. Construction is set to commence January 2020.

Additional business services coming to Seven Oaks Business Park include the recently established law firm of Zimmer & Melton, LLP, which is scheduled to relocate to 11601 Bolthouse Drive in the of Fall 2019. The firm is a full-service business and litigation firm, including agriculture and farming, estate planning, acquisition, and more. While the firm is recently established, it was formed by attorneys that are well known and well established within the community as being very experienced attorneys.

Further embracing the live, work, play lifestyle of Seven Oaks, Bolthouse Properties will continue hosting a monthly seasonal farmers market on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. now through October 2019. Market at Seven Oaks Business Park will continue to be located at The Shoppes, in the parking lot adjacent to Sequoia Sandwich Company and Asada Grill. The Market will feature local fruits and vegetables, honey, artisan breads, keto friendly treats, jellies and jams, salami and jerky, dinner options and much more! We invite you to join us monthly with your family.

There’s a party in Seven Oaks and everybody is invited!

When you hear “block party in Seven Oaks,” most of us aren’t holding our breath for an invite. But the entire community is welcome to the event on Saturday at the The Shoppes at Seven Oaks Business Park.

Saturday’s festivities will include a number of activities geared for families including a reading and signing of “Indy, Oh Indy” with local author Teresa Adamo and illustrator Jennifer Williams Cordova at 11 a.m.; bounce house and face painting from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and chance for kids to explore a fire engine from Station 15 of Bakersfield Fire Department at 1 p.m.

A small farmers market will be set up including vendors Broadfork Acres, Baker’s Outpost, Murray Family Farms, Fachin Bees Honey, Loads of Loaves, Tibbs Jerky, Pepper Delight, Luvspun and Mint Design. Others with items to sell include Autumn’s Eve Handmade Soaps, Crafty Sewer, Collective Goods, Plunder Jewelry and more.

Food samples will be offered by The Broken Yolk Cafe — Bakersfield West, Bolthouse Farms and incoming The Shoppes tenant Sully’s Chevron Station. Snacks and other food will be sold by Michaelangelo Wood Fired Pizza, Fit & Grub, Dewar’s Ice Cream & Fine Candies and The Shoppes tenant Asada Grill.

Organized by Bolthouse Properties, the event is meant to celebrate the growing Seven Oaks community, according to Mira Patel of Six23Media, which is working with Bolthouse Properties to promote the event.

The West Ming Specific Plan, a 20-year master planned community development, has brought growth to the southwest first through the Seven Oaks Business Park and residential developments at Highgate Seven Oaks and Belcourt Seven Oaks and now The Shoppes at Seven Oaks Business Park.

The 265-acre business park, which is adjacent to St. John’s Lutheran Church, is currently home to Kern Endocrine Center, Centric Health Urgent Care and Asada Grill. Sully’s Chevron Station and Sequoia Sandwich Co. are nearing completion, with plans to open this spring. Other confirmed tenants include The UPS Store, Pair & Marotta Physical Therapy and a dental practice.

Entrance to the block party is at the Stephan J. DeBranch Memorial Trail. Named in honor of Bolthouse Properties’ late senior vice president of development, the three-mile, multipurpose trail is intended to connect the area’s existing trail system to Seven Oaks residential developments, businesses and the surrounding community.

Complimentary parking is available at Kern School Federal Credit Union, 11500 Bolthouse Drive.

Patel said this likely won’t be the last event of its kind.

“Bolthouse Properties plans to continue bring the community together through various events based on the ‘live work play’ lifestyle,” she wrote.

Local Coffee shop Announces Second Location at Grand Island Village

Here we grow again! November 2018, Bolthouse Properties and Café Smitten jointly announced their partnership for the final phase of Grand Island Village at their Groundbreaking Ceremony.

The Seven Oaks neighborhood retail center, which Bolthouse Properties opened in 2012, already is home to many local favorites. Including Sully’s, Dewar’s Ice Cream, Valley Republic Bank, Wooddale Market, Sol y Luna and will soon be home to another local icon, Smitten.

Owners, Stasie and Shai Bitton are looking forward to extending the Smitten brand while staying true to the Café Smitten vision, style and concept that has been established at their downtown location.

Smitten, as their second location will be known, will be approximately 3,350 square feet and will maintain the level of quality, expertise and hospitality that customers know and love. “Bakersfield is rapidly growing, we wanted to be able to serve more of our southwest customers in a convenient neighborhood location. Grand Island Village is a perfect location for us to do that from,” say the Bittons.

With indoor and outdoor seating, Seven Oaks residents can expect the same food and drinks patrons have grown to love. “Our vision for this location is to have extended hours of operation and additional menu items including dinner along with beer and wine,” Shai goes on to say.

The new location is set to open in mid to late summer of 2019.

As the neighborhood centre announces its plans for completion, Bolthouse Properties is proud of the planned growth happening in the heart of our neighborhood. “We are very pleased Café Smitten selected Grand Island Village in Seven Oaks as the home for their new Smitten restaurant. Shai and Stasie were able to connect with our vision for the future.” shared Bruce Davis, Senior Vice President of Bolthouse Properties. “Smitten adds the final piece to Grand Island Village. Their restaurant fits in well with our other tenants, providing our customers with dining experiences for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Their menu and exceptional product is in keeping with the other dining experiences at the center, making Grand Island Village the place to connect in Seven Oaks.”

As work on Smitten moves along, we look forward to bringing you updates. In the meantime, Asada Grill and Sully’s Neighborhood Market and Gas Station recently opened at The Shoppes at Seven Oaks Business Park and The Sequoia Sandwich Company is soon to follow.
